Default Maserati MC12

Why is the MC12 allowed to compete in ALMS races but not legal at Le Mans? It also competes in Europe in FIA GT I believe, is it not homologated?

The MC12 is allowed to compete in the ALMS because the ALMS chooses to let it, as is their right. But the car is not ACO compliant/legal and is not homologated with the ACO. That is why when the winning team in the FIA championship is given an auto-invitation to LeMans and they run an MC12 it is not extended to the car.

Thanks. Are there major car differences allowed between the FIA & ACO rules? Are there not minimum production requirements?

I would not say that they are major differences as there are several teams/cars that race cross series with the same chassis with some adjustments. Here are the FIA regs which should inform you of the differences if you read the ACO ruleset stickied to this forum for comparison. Enjoy!
