| Dyson 2008? Let me start by saying that Dyson has my utmost respect for sticking around and battling the Audi's for all these years. That being said, they've always had "issues" with their cars which have prevented them from being consistantly competitive. First with the outmatched 675 Lola that Dyson ran to the limit just to be able to keep with the R8's and then with the P1 Lola which showed flashes of potential but was always way behind the development curve. Then they get the Spyders. This was their time to shine. Penske had developed them for a year and Dyson is as professional a team as there is with fantastic drivers. I must admit, I had high expectations for Dyson last year.....and unfortunately, although they showed progress, they never challenged. I would enjoy nothing more than watching Dyson run up front at the end of races in 2008 battling the all powerful R10's and Penske Spyders. Will this be the year? Let's hope so.

| Well they have spent the last 3 days testing at Sebring, so perhaps they are determined to catch up with Penske.

| Agree Carlos-First, to take a line from Bruce Willis in the movie Die Dard, Welcome to the Party!
Back on subject, agree with you 100% (even for a Hurricane), as you make good points.
I thought Dyson would really have a break out year in 07, let us see in 08.

| Is Dyson getting all the parts that Penske is? At the same time?
I kinda thought Penske is the 'factory' team... |

I kinda thought Penske is the 'factory' team... | Supposedly Rob Dyson has laid that to rest and stated that they are identical cars. However, at Sebring the cars (Dyson vs. Penske) sounded drastically different from each other. At PLM they sounded very similar. That probably doesn't amount to a hill of beans, but it makes me wonder. |

| You are correct bullitt_60:
You are correct about them sounding different....in fact, I recorded both and there was a lively discussion around the distinct sound difference....something about the muffler being burnt in...
I will try to find my audio file and post it here....

| Same specs as Penske I rather think that Dyson do not have the same spec as Penske.
The engine sound could simply be the muffler, or it could be the difference between an enduro spec engine, good for several races in the Dysons, or a sprint spec engine, fresh each race in the Penskes.
Based on Porsche's policies in the past, one would assume that Penske gets everything a couple of races before the development is ever offered to a customer.
That aside, were the equipment equal in all respects, I wouldn't put my money on the Dyson operation being able to take on and beat that of Penske. However, I would like to be proven wrong about that. |

Next season I would like to see Guy Smith paired with Butch. Losing Weaver was a big loss to the team and as much as I like Andy Wallace, he is no spring chicken. We'll see what the Dyson boys put together for next season. |

Add the scope & expertise of the engineering side of the Penske operation in comparison to that of Dyson's, you can see why they are being beaten. Whilst I'm sure Porsche would like to see the customer cars go well and beat the Acuras, it seems to have always been the nature of Porsche to favor a particular Team or Teams above all others. Penske has easily shown they can get the job done, so I don't see that changing too soon. It will remain to be seen what IMSA does about weights etc for 2008, as to whether we will again see the P2 cars regularly beating the P1 cars...............and what Audi can do about restoring the status quo. |
