Default Daytona anyone?

While ALMS is my favourite, I must confess that I also quite enjoy the 24 hrs of Daytona. The rest of the Grand Am season I watch, but something about Daytona seems special. Maybe it's the huge field, maybe it's the history? Am I the only one? What are the thoughts of the ALMS community & fans towards the race (and the rest of Grand Am for that matter)?

I'll be there. I'll also be at the test in January. The 24 does have the challenge of endurance going for it. I have a soft spot for seeing the cars at first light... front ends all worn out and beat up.. the grime and the great morning light. It's pretty cool... but exhausting.

I'm skipping this year. With the increased cost of air flights now, this long weekend can cost me close to $1000. I'll save the money for a down payment on a new truck and drive down to the Petit again in '08!

I went a couple of years ago and had a good time. I was part of a Pontiac deal, took a couple of paced laps around the track. I don't think I'll go back under the current format though as the constant drone of similar V8s get tiresome after 20hrs. Since you can only camp the night of the race, the infield seems to lack some of the atmosphere I'm used to.

I'm in on Thursday and flying home Sunday night.

I'll go back for the 24 then head over to Sebring for ALMS testing.
