Default ALMS TV Coverage

Interesting article over at Sportscar Analytics on the television coverage from the past and future. check it out here: ALMS Television 2008: Managing Expectations Sportscar Analytics: Quantitative, Qualitative, and Everything in Between.

A little nugget from an Interview with a ALMS Executive:

The ALMS also has time allotted after each race to revisit and edit the footage (within reason). The packaging of TV is a rather subjective endeavor and the positive feedback on the ALMS broadcasts far outweighs some of the critiques seen from time to time, including SA’s coverage. But, as an old executive producer once said: “Don’t worry about anything except if they stop writing about you.”
Interesting that the positive feedback of the broadcasts outweighs the critiques. I wonder who's giving positive feedback? Certainly not the fans...at least the ones active on the various ALMS message boards.

Oh, I think there is a lot positive about the broadcasts. The announcers are generally good. The races are actaully being broadcast. 10 years ago, I would have had no hope of seeing ALMS races on TV in this area.
Some of the full length race broadcasts are pretty darned good. They miss stuff, and they spend too much time on the P1's, but that is pretty normal.

But, the chopped races are just hugely disappointing. Even the good productions need a lot more work to be top notch. If it is going to be tape delayed, then for goodness sake, do a proper job of editing and get rid of as much yellow as you can. I understand they can't show stuff that wasn't in the original production, but at least get rid of the yellows.

I think the complaints above are pretty darned universal. What I mean is that pretty much every fan thinks the same thing. We all do see positives in the broadcasts, but we all see some pretty bad detractors especially when the broadcast is on network TV. If that means the positive feedback outweighs the negative, then I am confused. Does that mean that the negative feedback is just being ignored then?
