| E85 Fuel In a technological breakthrough in both the renewable fuels arena and racing, KL Process Design Group (KL) of Rapid City, SD, will supply the American Le Mans Series with cellulosic E85 racing ethanol for the 2008 season. The fuel, produced from waste wood, will be used for the first time during the season opener - the 56th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring presented by Fresh from Florida on March 15. American Le Mans Series :: World Class
WOW! To me, this is HUGE! When we have the 'R' word being thrown around.....gas prices hitting $3.00 as an average....The US Govt creating a tax refund package....people worring about how to make ends meet....etc etc
The ALMS has this....(NASCAR? GARRA?) I think this is a huge PR opportunity and to have GM Corvette racing on this at Sebring? Two thumbs up from me....

| It is huge, I just wish the news made it past the fans of the series. I have read about this nowhere else except the official and fan sites. Sure, it's great, but what does it all mean? |

| Agree Fanta:
Oh, I totally agree with your comments, as I said, this is a HUGE PR Opportunity....and let us hope the Series runs with this more than outside their website...and more than on SPEED (will it even make a tv broadcast?)
This type of news should hit MSNBC, CNN, etc.....THIS IS HUGE....as many non racing fans think racing is a waste of time and money.....even when pointed out all the saftey features on their car, many came from racing....now fuel....
Sadly, I think the Series will not get the most out of this, I could be wrong and hope I am. |

| I wonder is we..the fans can put together a little package to send to newspapers around the country about the corvette's and Aston Martin's E85, Audi's BioDiesel, E10 for all etc...
Would that get it anywhere? Would anyone pick it up? The paper here in the Bay Area love green cars like the Prius and such...I would think it's a slam dunk. |

| The ' Back to the Future ' Delorean with 25th (?) century fuel mod, picture of Loyd feeding it a bannana peel, would make a good commercial IMO that would play well with the masses (mostly).

| Autoextremist To add more to this story.....GREAT read (IMHO) and the website is also improved.... The racing series poised to make the most hay with the move to relevant racing at the moment? There's only one, frankly, and that's the American Le Mans Series Fumes - Autoextremist.com ~ the bare-knuckled, unvarnished, high octane truth... |

| So maybe if we bring a shrubbery or bags of lawn trimmings to the track, they give us a discount on pit roof seats at Sebring.
I wonder when it will get to the point that the waste collected (all of it) during the week of Sebring will be turned into a fuel source that some teams can use. We'll reduce our carbon footprint and at the same time give back to the series that provides us so much entertainment; kind of a self sustaining system.
The more beer and brats we put down, the more waste we produce, the more fuel is made available, therefore driving operating costs down and making it more affordable for more teams to join the series.
I'd say you're onto something here. Spread the word and pass the mustard. |

| The real question is, is the fuel better? My father used to be in the racing fuel business & he thinks this could be better fuel. Does this hurt the DBR9?
I hope not

mj | E85 typically has higher octane than regular gasoline which may allow the Vette to make more power. It just depends if the Vettes E85 has higher octane than the E10 racing fuel...which I'm not sure about.
The one issue that the Vette may have is that the E85 has less energy per volume So, they're going to have to carry more fuel to go the same distance. I think they're allowed 110L versus the 90L of a regular E10 car.
Would I bet against Vette...not a chance. |
