Default 3 Acuras and 1 Blue Banana

After reading John Dagys informative Sebring reports and viewing Tuesdays excellent pictures by Eric Gilbert on motorsport.com. I noticed that the Highcroft team still has the blue banana light just above the air intake. (I heard it referred to as a blue banana but can't remember where). Out of curiosity what is this thing for? Also why doesn't the other two Acura's have them.

My theory is that it's one of those bug zapping lights so that they can get the cleanest air possible... hope this technology makes it to the showroom one day.

Sorry if this has been asked before.

Good question. I'll try and find out tomorrow.. Thanks for the kind comments and hope you continue reading throughout the weekend. I have a pretty good story regarding the lack of American factory support in GT2 coming out tomorrow. It should give provide a new eye towards looking at the Doran Ford GT, Riley Corvette and Viper Comp Coupe programs.

They are class ID lights with the added benefit of control panel illumination in the cockpit for the driver.

No problem... thank you for being in the trenches and reporting back. I remember the play by play live text race updates on your old site. Will something like that ever make it to motorsports or somewhere else in the future?

Horndawg, as usually thanks for the information not just on this question but on all my other silly questions. I just though it was interesting that the other two car's don't have them. It certainly is cool looking at night.

I'm not sure, as I'm just a plain 'ol writer at motorsport.com. It would be cool to do - perhaps I can talk to them and see if we can make it happen for Le Mans... But it might be a tough task to take on for such a race, especially as I'll be doing most of the coverage. I think it will be hard to stay glued to that media center seat over there and do it for 24 hours.. We'll see..

No problem. It was something I really enjoyed and enhanced the series greatly. Be nice if the alms website could do it or even have imsa use a java based time scoring like F1 and V8 Supercar sites use. Updatef1.com has a live text based update too where the guy will reply to emails during the down part of practice.

Looking at JT's latest Sebring pictures I see that ARG Acura has a Butterfly style led on the air inlet but in regular white color.
