Default Ptg...

I was wondering where you all think PTG may be in a year. With BMW coming back, you'd think that would be a choice for them. Or maybe something a little different...

Just a thought...

PTG is a business...they will race for who ever pays them to do so. I doubt Ferrari or Yokohama will bankroll a PTG Ferrari. PTG was the only GT2 team to not get IMSA Cup points because they're a Panoz Factory Team.

I don't want to get political... but that irony is painful.

How so? Can you give me an example of a team on the grid that you think is wrongly slotted ( such as the factory owns the cars and the team runs them yet is considered a privateer)?

Well I would say that BMW could be a choice for them but there is also supposed to be a Mk II Esperante GTLM on the way according to Richard Dean of LNT (on MWM today). So who knows where PTG will end up in 09?

I've been wondering that myself. I think we all know that if PTG is given the right hardware they can win a lot. Surprised not to see them with BMW as I expection, so I really don't have an idea.

Not to redirect the thread too much, but what is the state of Panoz? I heard a rumour a while back - shoot, it was probably two years ago now - That Panoz had a new product, possibly mid-engined? Nothing ever came of it. The Esperante is long in the tooth. Is Panoz in decent financial shape?

I agree that they're properly "slotted"-but it doesn't make much sense to me that GT2's only "factory" team can't afford to run two cars anymore (here's hoping the apparent upgrades give them some speed and funding this year); I just want to see the Panoz, as part of this most diverse GT2 field, run competitively again.

I think they're factory because they get the majority of the funding through PMG. I've looked for IMSA definition of a factory team but have been unable to find it.

I find it interesting that the Acura cars are not considered Factory. I guess their sponsor's pay the bills and not Acura.

Sure would be nice to find out what makes a team a factory effort and what makes them a 'privateer'.

Panoz Team PTG is considered factory because it is. The cars are owned by PMG and ran for them by PTG.

The privateer teams that run the Acuras own the cars and are in a developmental partnership with Acura/HPD. link

As to Factory vs. Privateer, it is real simple. It is who owns what!

Makes sense...Is it spelled out anywhere in the rules? I remember looking a while back but was unable to find an explicit definition.
