Default Big Changes at Andretti-Green Racing

According to EI, Franck Montagny will be the lead driver for the remainder of the season in the AGR Acura. His partner at Lime Rock being Marco Andretti and he'll have several other driving partners throughout the rest of the season!

I wonder what preempted this big change?

Does this mean that Herta has been fired? If so too bad he seems like a nice guy.

Well with AGR clearing out the cockpit and bringing on Franck Montagny as the primary driver (ALMS news) and having their faster pilots from the open wheel program join him. It looks as if they have been given the word that if the performance is not any better than what it has been they will not have a chance at the P-1 program. So it seems that the P-1 program is on the way.

Yup I read the whole thing as Herta and Fittapaldi as being to slow. Gil came in and put the other three teams on notice.

I completely forgot about Christian Fittipaldi. Maybe if Marco doesn't start winning some races soon, or at least finishing he will become the lead driver in that car.

I think this came as a surprise by many. I can understand the team wanting to mix things up by perhaps swapping out one driver, but both? Herta has been there since the program's formation - and has been a long-time AGR driver. He probably has the most laps in the ARX-01a/b cars out of all the Acura drivers. I really can't understand their decision on dumping him...

Adding Montagny is a good move - he's quick and should be right on the pace with the Acura's "new" benchmark - Simon Pagenaud. Notice the shakeup after seeing how quick the de Ferran Acura was at SLC.. The talk in the paddock as of late has been about recruiting young drivers. A few other prototype teams are also evaluating doing this.

While Fittipaldi and Herta have loads of experience, they may not have the eagerness to preform as much as these new kids on the block. But what teams have to remember is that there needs to be a mix of veterans and youngsters in the cockpit. Sure, Sebring and Petit Le Mans have turned into "sprint" races, but there needs to be a "leader" steering the car- and also someone the team can fall back on in time of need.
