Michelin certainly does seem to dominate sports car racing now. In these days, the tire is probably more important for overall performance than even the engine (given the rules limitations in most series). A good tire enhances every aspect of the car from putting the power down, to braking to cornering. Michelin seems to have the edge there in every series they run in.

However, from what I have seen, they are starting to lose their edge in the street tire market. It used to be that Michelin was the hands down winner in all the performance tire categories. Now, it is not so clear. Goodyear is offering some solid products that get just about as good to sometimes better ratings than the Michelins. I know this is really completely unrelated to racing, but I thought it was interesting.

Hopefully, racing does translate into better overall road products in tires. I think that it does. I also think the marketing potential for tires is just as high, if not higher, than for car models/brands. It would be good to see some more serious efforts from more tire manufacturers. We do see a lot of tire manufacturers playing in racing, but I am not sure if they can't or won't commit to the type of support and quality that Michelin produces.
