Default ALMS/IMSA making a BIG mistake!

Sorry I know that the grid size is bad but to promote the Porsche Cup cars (you can call them what you will) is a huge mistake of diluting the quality of the grid. I have nothing against the GT-3 Porsche cars but they do not belong on the grid with Prototypes. Here

Maybe, but it will be interesting to watch! It makes some sense for the races in question b/c participation is likely to be low. Adding GT3 for a few races only is a great compromise.

Sorry, I myself am not fond of Demolition Derbys where the cars cost 500,000 or more!

This is not a solution to small car counts nor will it bring in any new fans. This also sure as hell doesnt follow the "to tomorrow faster" slogan they recently adopted. This series is losing a loyal viewer quickly. I am still "waiting for next year".

Well, I'll take a wait and see.

After all, it's not like there's going to be 20 of them tangling it up with a dozen LMP cars. There'll probably be a half dozen and the largest segment of the field is GT2. The four or five LMP cars will simply have to work through it.

Seriously... do the math.

Lastly, if it's this racing... or NO racing... I can live with the slight inconvenience.

Let's wait and see.

Has anyone even CONSIDERED what 15 cars is going to look like at Miller Motorsports Park?

As long as only a handful of pre-screened cars are in the class and as long as they aren't at Petit or Laguna Seca I guess I can tolerate it if it keeps the series afloat until next year. Miller would be a joke with only 15 or 16 cars. I'm not really keen to see them mix it up with big boys at Lime Rock though...

i just dont think this is the answer to the GT2 void. Are there going to be enough GT3 teams to be able to afford this to make it a worthwhile addition to the series?

I'm with JT, if it's this or nothing.... I'll take this.

My only complaint being: If they are going to open it up to GT3 cars, then OPEN it up to GT3 cars. Not just Patron cup. I'd love to see some of the FIA GT3 cars over here. R8's, Lambo's, etc...

With GT1 pretty much dead, I have no objection to running the GT3 cars... back to 4 classes

I think they chose the Patron cars because they need entries now! I am sure they would love to have a more diverse solution but what team can turn around in less than 2 months and be ready in a different series on a different continent? Especially in this sponsorship environment. If this experiment works and they continue it next season they would probably open it up a little I would guess, there are some great GT3 cars in Europe. Spec racing is not what the ALMS is about as we all know. That is a big part of the attraction for most of us I assume.

Hey, the Series is trying to answer how to combat the small fields in this harsh economic times...and I for one commend them for doing something....Those that are so harsh with comments and believe it is not a good thing...sure, having all GT3 entries allowed would be great-who would join in?

I have a choice either follow the ALMS and/or follow the other US sportscar series....The choice is easy for me....I am glad the ALMS is here....

The so called experts on many of the forums should be thankful the Series is here...perhaps they can start to follow, report, and photograph the other series.....
