Default Champ Car Mexico Race

Yes, I watched some of the race....and the parts I did watch were very good and didnt hear anything that would make me think 2008 is dead.....

Too bad the ALMS does not race there, as was planned in 05.....

Who else watched the race?

Comments and Opinions?

I didn't see the race because CCWS is the most poorly promoted series on earth. I'm more likely to catch a Star Mazda race. Now that RuSport is closing it's doors and I believe I read that Walker was losing his sponsership it doesn't look good. I do think that CCWS will struggle through next season (think of Trans Ams last few years) but expect to see even more cancelled dates. A shame really considering the overall quality of the product. Las Vegas was one of the first street courses that I enjoyed watching on TV. I'd rather see the ALMS go to Vegas than Houston.

2008 schedule has been announced. The last kick at the can for ChampCar looks to be going international and they are adding a race in Spain. Their TV schedule in Canada is a joke, only showing some races and most tape delayed at that. I have attended 6 CART/ChampCar races but have started attending ALMS instead and must say the experience is vastly superior. I remember when the CART paddock had the buzz that the ALMS now has. Petit '07 was my second experience after attending Laguna Seca last yr. How can you not fall in love with the experience of the sights & sounds of the cars in the hills at night? I think the last batch of us ex-hardcore ChampCar fans has been and will be lost to the ALMS.

Yeah, I don't know what Kalkhoven is doing. I can guarantee you that Bernie and the F1 circus will not put up with a sort-of competing open wheel series playing around in Europe for too long. I also bet that there is no way CHAMP car will get to play on any of the big and famous European tracks too.

I know that KK is trying to create differentiation and venues guaranteed to draw big crowds, but I don't think that philosophy is working. Of course, it is a death spiral kind of thing. If they don't put on a good show, nobody watches, if nobody watches, they have to keep buying their TV time. It is expensive so they take what they can get, which is usually lousy. This means less exposure and the spiral tightens.

I do hope they can pull it out, but it just seems like the energy has left. I hate to think that TG can win at this.

Oh, and the Mexico race... it was pretty good. Too many cars crapped out again though. And of course, watching Seabass win yet another one is not exactly thrilling. That guy has a 43% win ratio over 4 years. It is amazing, really. But since I can't stand to listen to the guy, it hasn't exactly been amazing to watch. It would have been a little better if he could have managed to learn how to say "McDonald's" correctly MACK DonAldz just doesn't cut it after four years.
