Default Race Country Club

Did anyone catch the NBC news this week, with the episode on the new 'country club' just outside of Joliet? They started the segment with traditional country club, golfers, horse back riding, etc...then pan to a nice club house, but it is a country club for auto racers. The club house and condos were very very nice, and during the shoot, they showed a few Porsches and Vets (SCCA) going at it...but basically it is a club you join and you can go on the track on what you drove to cars you towed! Saw a couple open wheelers going around...

The kicker?

Need to fork down, over 100k to join, and condos above the garrage (kinda like a golf shop locker room for cars!) start around 350K...

Must be nice....

The only club trak I frequent is Putnum Park outside of Indy....really nice track and have been there for testing for the first Panoz Esperante, a few DPs, and Clint Field with their old Banana Joe Lola....

Was there when Stallings took their DP out for the first time....in driving rain!

VIR is a "country club" model. There are several others also. I've seen the one you're referring too.... seems a little shaky since there's no "real" capital base for the group. It's all pie-in-the-sky at this time.

Limerock has also announced that this is how they intend to refurbish and insure the preservation of the facility. I think their membership is something more along the lines of $500K though. They announced it during the ALMS race.... seemed a bit of a reach to me.

There is also one going in near Boardman Oregon. http://www.pnwmotorsportspark.com/
Memberships start at $15k plus $300 per month and go up to $100k.

They do hope to host professional events at some point too. Again, it is one of those deals that looks really interesting, but you gotta show me the money. It is going to take a lot of it to make it happen.
