Maybe the ACO told them that they'd be one of the teams given the boot with the big influx of LMPs so they're just playing it off as they've decided not to run.

First I would assume you mean Patrick Peter and the LMS(?). And It very well could be that they (GPC) have seen the writing on the wall per se and decided with the amount of over subscription, especially in GT-2, that they were better served to concentrate closer to home for now.

Little surprise on the site of the team, the sixth round of the championship is announced in China, on the side of Zhuhai! To be continued ...

Correct. It will be a standalone race - open for ALMS and LMS teams. This race will be used as a warm-up to the Asian Le Mans Series in 2009 - exactly the same way the ACO did it with the Le Mans 1000 km in 2003, followed by the LMES in 2004. Auto entries to Le Mans for each class winner too..

Well while we were not looking it seems tha the LMS snuck one in on us. The Cytosport/Charouz entry is now on the official list at the LMS site bringing the total Entrants to 51. Also apparently Vanina Ickx has joined the Rollcentre driver line-up and Amanda Stretton will be joining her husband Bob Berridge in the Chamberlain car
