| Most interesting!
Thanks for the information.
I'm intrigued by the V8 for GT racing, as it will no doubt not be in the back of a 911.
Also - I hope that it's Dyson stepping up and not Penske taking it down a peg. |

| The Cayman didn't sound like it was on the table so one could assume if it happen it would be a 911? |

| Not a 911.
A V8 is too heavy for a 911. (it would be too much weight behind the rear axle)
It would either be a front or mid engine.
As the mid-engine is the layout with the biggest advantages, I would think that we will see a mid-engined cayman type car emerging. |

| I don't want to speculate, jsut merely sharing what I heard. All I know is that the V8 comment came out when I mentioned the 430 seemed to have the measure of them this yr so I assumed GT2. The way they went silent about right away makes me think something was said that shouldn't have been. I agree about the weight issue. Do you think the Cayman could run as a GT1 and the 911 as a GT2 or vice versa? I can't see them walking away from all the 911 heritage in racing. |

| I must have forgotten to take my meds yesterday!
This could be the Carrera GT substitute that has been speculated about for some time now. If it is, it will be GT1. |

| That makes way more sense and is way more exciting! That might be the reason for the secrecy as they were quite candid about anything else we discussed. Back to the original theme of the thread... 2 Penskes, 2 Dysons, 1 Horag (LMS & partial ALMS), 1 Equip Verschuur (LMS). Who are the other 2 (or 3) and on which side of the Altantic? Will the CET car surface elsewhere? Conzus? Will Rahal or Milner possibly show up with one? The more RS Spyders the better! Also, one last thing, the Porsche engineers said at that time Penske had no intention of going to Le Mans in '08, too bad. |

| I don't think that a v8 necissarily has to weigh too much for a 911 configuration. I know of a v8 that puts out nearly 400hp NA and weighs in at 200lbs. So it really depends on what they want to do. But, I am not an engineer and I don't know what the current flat six weighs. http://www.h1v8.com/page/page/1562068.htm |

| It's also a question of length; the V8 would be too long.
As for Penske and Le Mans, I can fully understand that. Porsche have stated that the Spyders will be around 14 seconds/lap slower than the diesels at Le Mans. Porsche have never (barring a few special occasions) gone to Le Mans (in an official capacity) without the possibility of competing for an overall win. |

2 x Penske
2 x Dyson
1 x Horag Lista - S/PLM/LS LMS 1 x Horag Lista
1 x Equip Verschuur
1 x Team Essex
That makes for 7 full season entries between the twon series, so I'd imagine we might see 1, maybe 2 more in the ALMS if we're lucky. Who might run them, I have no idea... |
