Default Zytek Drivers Enthused by LMP2 car's potential

18th October, 2007 - Zytek's rapid 07S LMP2 car follows up its impressive Petit Le Mans performance with an entry for this Saturday's American Le Mans Series race at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. A change in the driver line-up from a fortnight ago sees the young Japanese driver, Hayanari Shimoda back behind the wheel of a Zytek. Although this will be his LMP2 debut, Hayanari has been particularly successful driving Zytek sports cars with wins at the Nurburgring, Spa and here at Laguna Seca

Hayanari returns to the scene of his 2005 victory and to what he describes as his favourite track. "I have a good memory of this circuit. I have wanted to drive the LMP2 07S. It is lighter than the LMP1 car and should go well here, not just in its class but overall."

By contrast Hayanari's teammate, German Stefan Mucke will be making his Laguna Seca debut. "I enjoy the racing over here. We have a lot of fun with this car," he says, perhaps not surprisingly having been part of the team that took the factory-run 07S to a podium place at the Petit Le Mans race a fortnight ago. Stefan has been one of the star drivers in LMP1 in Europe this year but admits that "I will have to change my driving style" for an LMP2 at Laguna Seca. "It will be important to carry the speed through the corners here."

Zytek will also be represented in the LMP1 class in Saturday's race. In what is sure to be a great weekend for English sport, the Arena team will be fielding an all-English line-up with Darren Manning again joining Tom Chilton in its LMP1 Zytek 07S. "We proved the car had pace at Atlanta (where the car led) and we plan to continue on from there," remarked a confident team manager, Alan Cole. "We intend to show that pace again in qualifying and then go on and win the race."
