 Patrón Highcroft Racing Scores Best Finish In Team History At Acura Sports Car Challe
David Brabham and Scott Sharp pushed the Patrón Highcroft Racing Acura ARX-01b to second step of the podium on Saturday afternoon in sunny St. Petersburg with a second place in class and third place overall finish. The team ran in the top three in practices all week and race day paid off with the team’s best finish in its young history.
David Brabham said of today’s race, “This result is just awesome. We came here this week with a very good setup. The guys did a very good job back at the shop preparing the car for this circuit. They were also practicing pit stop work back home and that intense preparation paid off in spades for the team today. We ran near the front of the pack all week and so to maintain that great position during the race was just fantastic. Also, Scott did a top-notch job at the beginning of the race. The car was way too loose at the start so he was great at keeping it off the wall and gave the car to me in good shape. Toward the end of my run, I had some trouble with restarts and we had a lot of pickup on the tires so it was pretty challenging to drive there for awhile. But we hung on and got our best result to date. We have a lot of good people from Patrón and Acura here this weekend, so we’re thrilled that we could bring them this kind of finish.”
Scott Sharp, who started the race, weighed in on his 45-minute stint, and said, “Overall, it was a good ride in the Acura ARX-01b. The car settled in quite nicely. The track was hot and slick so we were fighting for grip early on. The car was also bit loose at first so it was hard to develop braking force. But when I came in for a driver change, the crew gave us a flawless pit stop. David was able to get out there with an even stronger car and just did an awesome job holding off the Dyson Porsche throughout his run.”
Team Owner Duncan Dayton felt today’s result deeply. “The team has been working really hard to get the car where it needs to be. We were quick in every session, running consistently in the top three. The Acura ARX-01b has just been performing beautifully. Combined with that, both David and Scott did a hell of a job out there. Everyone was sliding around a fair amount today, but we had absolutely superb pit work with a very quick stop under the yellow. We hit our pit stop window exactly and were able to get back out there ahead of the Dyson Porsche. Second in class and third overall means one thing to this team – only one more step to go in LMP2 to be at the top of the hill.” |
